Welcome Students!
You are about to embark on an exciting adventure! Over the next nine months we will explore something you probably don't think about or discuss very much---your faith! You've been attending church all these years. Now it's time to explore your ideas about God, Jesus Christ and the Church. This experience is traditionally called "Confirmation," an opportunity to affirm your faith. At DCC we call it "Conformation," a time to form your own understanding of God's place in your life. Enjoy, have fun, and let us learn together!

"Yikes! What have I signed on to . . .?"

Your participation in this program does require some specific commitments. We call these promises "covenants" because they are made between you, me and God. Here are the covenants I will ask you to make:
I promise I will complete weekly assignments.
I promise I will attend group meetings once a month.
I promise I will attend church as often as possible.
I promise I will make time to reflect on my faith and the issues we are discussing.
I promise I will respect the beliefs and opinions of all the members of my group.
I promise I will participate in special church activities as I am able.
I promise I will have fun!

And these are my covenants with you:

I promise I will give you my time and my care.
I promise I will respect your beliefs and your individual faith journeys.
I promise I will honor and respect any and all questions you may have.
I promise I will make this experience as fun and meaningful as possible.

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Isaiah 40:3
  • Students will be introduced to various conceptions of God.
  • Students will understand Christianity as one of many great world religions.
  • Students will understand the size, make-up and structure of Christianity today.
  • Students will reflect upon why God has many forms and faces, and what characteristics of God are common to all faiths.

Unit One: Week Two (01.02)

Ending Sunday, October 14, 2012

1. Please read About Christianity and answer the following questions:
What is monotheism?
Who do Christians believe is the Son of God?
How many years ago did he live?
Where did Jesus live?

Just for Parents:
Thank you for supporting your teen's participation in our exciting new Confirmation program! Your interest and involvement are critical to its success. Please feel free to join your child as he or she completes weekly assignments. Ask questions. Get curious. Share your own doubts and beliefs while respecting theirs. Talk about assignments at the dinner table. Please make monthly group meetings and church attendance a priority. Let us be in covenant with one another as we lead our children toward faith-filled, Christ-inspired, and purposeful lives.

What to Expect Each Week:
Each week you will log onto this webpage for your homework assignments. Hopefully, you will find them fun and interesting! Weekly lessons will require approximately 1 hour to complete. Homework can be emailed to me at or dropped in the church mailbox.

What to Expect Each Month:

Once a month (usually the last Sunday), we will meet as a group from Noon-1:30 p.m. for lunch, activities and conversation. There may be some special projects or services that occur throughout the year (like baking apple pies for Thanksgiving food baskets). You will be encouraged to help with these events as you are able!

What to Expect In June:

After a whole year of study, service and reflection, you will be asked to decide if you want to become an official member of The First Congregational Church of Dunbarton, United Church of Christ. This faith decision is fully yours! No one can decide how God speaks in your life but you!

Thank you for your participation! Of course, if you have any questions at any time, please contact me at 865-5185 or

You can watch the clips all at once
(click “Play All”) or one at a time. Maybe you want to watch it with a parent or a special friend? (My apologies for the pop-up advertisements; please delete them by clicking "Skip Ad" or "x" as they arise!)
Once you have watched the show, please consider the following three questions and send me your thoughts at
  • What are some of the ways God was portrayed?
  • Why do you think peoples’ views of God are so different?
  • In what way(s) do you think they are the same?
